Here are three underrated K-Dramas that you should binge watch now! Note: These dramas were released from the end of April till the end of June. The list is not a ranking, nor are they listed in any particular order.
1. Love All Play
When: 20th April 2022 Cast: Park JuHyun, Chae JongHyeop, Kim MuJun and Seo JiHye. Synopsis: The drama follows the story of Park TaeYang (Park JuHyun) and Park TaeJoon (Chae JongHyeop). Park TaeYang is an aspiring badminton player who had to leave after being winded up in a bribing scandal. However, she returns after three years. Whilst Park TaeJoon views badminton as nothing more than a way to make a living, his view begins to change after meeting TaeYang. Watch if you are looking for: If you are missing a sports drama beautifully mixed with heart-fluttering romance, “Love All Play” is the drama for you! Why watch it?: “Love All Play” brings a youthful romance between two aces, Park TaeJoon and Park TaeYang, and how they become each other’s comfort. The story makes us believe in second chances and even though their story is relatively fast paced, as the two take interest in each other soon after they meet, it doesn’t make their interaction any less heart fluttering. The drama does not solely put its focus on the male lead, each character has a purpose in the show. “Love All Play” also showcases a green-flagged male lead. The show promotes a soft male lead who is supportive of his girlfriend and also waits for her rather than making sudden moves. Even so, he himself suffers as his parents still feel grieve over his older sister’s accident, rather than supporting him.
2. Jinxed At First
When: 15th June 2022 Lead Cast: Na InWoo and Girls’ Generation’s SeoHyun Synopsis: “Jinxed At First” is a fantasy romance genre. A love story that unfolds between an unlucky man and a goddess that brings luck. Gong SuKwang (Na InWoo), is known to bring bad luck to him and is constantly protested against by the neighboring market owners. That is until he meets Lee SeulBi (Girls’ Generation’s SeoHyun) again, a goddess known to bring good luck and can see the future. Though SeulBi was the reason why SuKwang lost everything, he gives her another chance, only to fall head over heels for her. Watch if you are looking for: If you are looking for some sweet romance with a twist of fantasy, the drama is just for you! Why watch it?: The enchanting cinematography has a way to trap you and you can’t help but be in awe. The storyline, too, makes one super intrigued. There is a mystery about SeulBi’s being and her mother’s past. Moreover, Lee SeulBi captures the viewer’s hearts with her innocence. Girl’s Generation SeoHyun, amazes us with how well she carries SeulBi’s innocence and bright nature. The sweet romance between SeulBi and SuKwang is absolutely to die for. The balance in their relationship is what makes them more lovable, even though it seems that it is SuKwang who protects the clumsy SeulBi. It was SeulBi who protected him too and brought good luck to him. “Jinxed At First” is a unique take on fantasy romance, with nothing too overboard yet keeping the magical aura.
3. Cleaning Up
When: 4th June 2022 Cast: Yum JungAh, Jeon SoMin, Lee YoungShin, Na InWoo, Kim JaeHwa Synopsis: “Cleaning Up” is the Korean remake of the British TV series of the same name. The drama tells the story of three cleaners, Eo YoungMi (Yum JungAh), a mother of two daughters who is struggling to make a living, An InYoung (Jeon SoMin), who dreams of buying a food truck to start her own business, and Maeng SooJa (Lee YoungShin), who is desperate for success. They accidentally overhear insider information at their workplace. The three use the information to buy stocks and put an end to their struggle Watch if you are looking for: If you are a fan of crime fused with comedy, heart-felt friendship and a hint of romance, “Cleaning Up” is the one for you. Why watch it?: The drama is truly one of a kind, it has its way of making us share YoungMi’s pain, as she struggles with her debts and keeping her daughters. And then we have sweet and innocent InYoung, who willingly puts herself at risk to help YoungMi. The characters of the story are absolutely grey and a lot more realistic. Though YoungMi is a hard working mother, she also has a past of being a gambling addict. Furthermore, it’s not like she excels at every relationship. She failed to have a loving relationship with her husband or her brother. Similarly, there is SooJa. Although she seems very sociable and nice, she is also manipulative, but as YoungMi puts it, they are all just surviving.
